Hohoe United have launched a scathing attack on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after confirming their withdrawal from the ongoing Premier League, citing what they describe as “systemic unfairness, procedural manipulation and apparent bias.”
In a detailed three-page statement issued on April 2, the club said the decision, taken after an emergency board meeting, was “painful but necessary” and made with immediate effect, despite being fully aware of the consequences.
“We do this not because we lack the will to compete, but because of the systemic unfairness, procedural manipulation and apparent bias we have endured which have made continued participation impossible,” the statement read.
The club outlined a chronology of events dating back to January, beginning with a home fixture against Vision FC, after which they were charged by the Ghana Football Association.
Hohoe United said they submitted a defence within the stipulated time before later facing Medeama in Tarkwa, where they claimed questionable officiating. Their concerns were compounded, they say, when the GFA Disciplinary Committee imposed a three-match home ban and a GHâµ30,000 fine without granting them a hearing or providing the original referee’s report.
According to the club, the sanction was enforced despite an appeal being properly filed, arguing that under league regulations, the punishment should have been stayed pending the outcome of that appeal.
They further accused the GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo of misinterpreting the rules and wrongfully directing their appeal process, leading to what they describe as an unjust enforcement of the decision, including a venue change for a scheduled fixture against Dreams FC.
The statement also raised fresh concerns over officiating, pointing to another match in Tema where they claim refereeing decisions directly influenced the outcome.
Hohoe United insist the timing of the disciplinary ruling, months after the initial incident, suggests it was deliberately delayed to deny them home advantage at a crucial stage of the season. The club note that the majority of their points this season were secured at home.
“Our fans were restricted and unfairly charged at away venues, we have faced forced venue changes, questionable officiating and sanctions that appear timed to influence league standings,” the statement added.
The club went further to question the integrity of the current football administration structure, claiming it allows for control and bias rather than transparency and fairness.
“It is our view that the current GFA system appears to be structured in a way that allows control and bias rather than ensuring impartiality. It is a highly compromised system.”
Hohoe United concluded by confirming their immediate withdrawal from the league and signalling their intention to pursue the matter through all lawful channels, describing the move as a stand against injustice rather than an end to their ambitions.
The decision now places the matter firmly in the hands of the Ghana FA, with the club expected to face potential sanctions under league regulations as the situation continues to unfold.
