Olympique Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca has expressed his frustrations over the prolonged unavailability of Ghana international Ernest Nuamah due to injury.
The Black Stars forward suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in April 2025 during a Ligue 1 match against Lille.
Due to the setback, Nuamah missed the remainder of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where Ghana managed to snatch one of Africa’s nine automatic slots.
Besides, the enterprising winger has yet to feature in the 2025/26 football campaign for the French Ligue 1 giants.
However, after eight months absence, the former FC Nordjaelland star returned to training early February at Lyon Nuamah, signaling an imminent return to action.
Speaking ahead of Angers clash, Paulo Fonseca expressed his displeasure about the winger’s unavailability, insisting his absence continues to be felt within the squad.
“Teams are stronger when there's competition at every position. When I see Ernest on the field, I think that's the kind of player who makes the difference and whose absence hurts” he said.
Having returned to training, the skillful Ghanaian winger is expected to return action for Lyon in the coming days.
His imminent return come as a huge boost for Ghana, who are gearing up for the 2026 World Cup tournament, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico between June and July.
