Dutch-born Ghanaian youngster Ofosu Boakye has taken a significant step in his budding career after making his senior debut for Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The 18-year-old forward featured for the first team in their dominant 5-0 home victory over PEC Zwolle on Sunday, just over a week after signing his first professional contract with the club.
The highly-rated teenager was introduced in the game in the 82nd minute when he replaced Swedish forward Victor Edvardsen.
Boakye’s rapid rise highlights his impressive development within the Go Ahead Eagles setup.
Having proven himself with the youth teams, the attacker earned promotion to the senior squad, where he continues to make a strong impression.
The talented forward has been in scintillating form for the club’s U21 side this season.
In just seven appearances, Boakye has netted eight goals and provided four assists, underlining his attacking quality and consistency in front of goal.
Speaking after signing his professional deal earlier, Boakye expressed confidence in his abilities and adaptation to the senior level.
“The way of playing in the first team is a bit different than I was used to, but I didn’t find it difficult to adapt to the level. I actually really enjoyed proving myself,” he said.
Head coach Paul Simonis has also been full of praise for the youngster, describing him as “a talented, open-minded player” who continues to impress in training.
Boakye’s debut marks another positive milestone for the Ghanaian prospect, who is steadily carving a path in European football.
With his current form and growing confidence, he is certainly one to watch for the future.
