Ghana’s search for a new head coach for the Black Stars is nearing its conclusion, with an official announcement expected this week, according to Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
The senior national team has been without a substantive head coach since the departure of Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties following the March international friendlies against Austria and Germany.
Providing an update in an interview on Channel One TV last week, the Buem Member of Parliament revealed that the recruitment process is almost complete, with the Ghana Football Association poised to unveil the new manager imminently.
“If by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach,” he said.
Adams also struck an optimistic tone about Ghana’s chances on the global stage, insisting the country possesses the quality to compete with the very best.
“We have what it takes to go very far, maybe even win the World Cup. Let’s remain hopeful,” he added.
A number of experienced names have been linked to the vacant role, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos.
The incoming coach is expected to assume duties ahead of a pre-World Cup friendly against Mexico in May.
Ghana, who have been drawn in Group L, will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars will be aiming for a stronger showing at the tournament after group-stage exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions.
