Ghana have strengthened their technical setup with the appointment of experienced American-Portuguese trainer Daniel Gaspar as the new goalkeepers’ coach of the Black Stars.
Gaspar joins the backroom staff of newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz, continuing a long-standing professional relationship that dates back over three decades.
The duo have worked together in multiple roles since 1992, building a strong partnership across both national teams and club football.
The vastly experienced goalkeeping specialist has held several key roles throughout his career, including stints with the Portuguese national team setup in the early 1990s and again between 2009 and 2010 with various youth sides.
He has also worked with the South African national team and top clubs such as Sporting CP, Nagoya Grampus Eight, and the NY/NJ MetroStars.
In 2003, Gaspar served as goalkeeping coach for Portugal under Luiz Felipe Scolari and later worked under Jose Antonio Camacho at Benfica.
His extensive resume highlights a deep understanding of elite-level goalkeeping and team preparation.
Gaspar reunited with Queiroz in 2011 with the Iran national team, where he served as assistant and goalkeeping coach.
During that period, Iran qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and secured a place at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, underlining the effectiveness of their collaboration.
More recently, Gaspar worked with Hartford Athletic in the United States, further broadening his international experience.
His appointment is expected to play a crucial role in improving Ghana’s goalkeeping department as the Black Stars prepare for upcoming international assignments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
