Just months after breaking the Polish Ekstraklasa transfer record to sign Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari, Widzew Åódź are already planning to offload the 27-year-old at a significant loss.
The club paid â¬5.5 million to bring Bukari from MLS side Austin FC in December 2025, making him the most expensive player in Polish league history.
However, the move has turned into a nightmare. Bukari has failed to register a single goal or assist in his seven appearances for the club, with most of those coming as brief substitute cameos.
The situation was further complicated by a work permit issue that forced Bukari to leave Poland during an international break. He spent three weeks waiting for clearance, missing crucial training sessions and matches. Upon his return, he has been restricted to just a handful of minutes, playing only four minutes in a recent defeat to Radomiak Radom.
With Widzew currently hovering just above the relegation zone, the club has decided to cut its losses.
According to Polish media reports, the Åódź-based side will attempt to sell Bukari in the summer, regardless of whether they avoid the drop. They are prepared to accept offers in the region of â¬2.5â3 million, roughly half of what they paid just a few months ago.
Bukari, who has 19 caps and three goals for Ghana, was expected to be a star in the Ekstraklasa and was tipped for a potential World Cup squad place.
Instead, his disastrous spell in Poland has cast serious doubt over his immediate future. With a contract running until 2030 and among the highest wages in the league, finding a buyer willing to take on the struggling winger will be a major challenge for the club.
