Ghana’s U17 side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Cote d’Ivoire in an international friendly as preparations continue for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Black Starlets were edged by the Young Elephants at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in Ebimpe, in what served as a key test for Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side ahead of the continental tournament.
Second-half goals from Diabaté Yssouf and Nomané Guy secured victory for the hosts, who capitalised on their chances after a closely contested opening period. Ghana showed moments of promise but were unable to convert their opportunities in front of goal.
The fixture forms part of a two-game friendly series between the two West African rivals, with the second encounter scheduled for April 30, 2026.
For Ghana, the matches are an important part of preparations for the U17 AFCON, where they have been drawn in a difficult Group D alongside Senegal, Algeria and South Africa. The tournament will also serve as qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup.
Despite the defeat, the technical team is expected to use the friendly to assess the squad, fine-tune tactics and address key areas ahead of the competition.
