Daniel Kofi Kyereh has described Andre Ayew as a central influence on his development, crediting the former Black Stars captain for his guidance during the early stages of his international career.
The Freiburg midfielder said Ayew’s leadership extended beyond the pitch, offering personal support during his integration into the national team.
“From the day I joined the Black Stars to when I had the injury and couldn't participate anymore, he was really taking good care of me and of course, he was my childhood hero,” Kyereh told Joy Sports.
Kyereh, who earned his first call-up in 2021, said his long-standing admiration for Ayew remains unchanged.
“I still have pictures of him and others in my childhood room. I have big respect for Dede.”
He gained attention during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, featuring in Ghana’s 3-2 defeat to Comoros in the group stage.
After being included in Ghana’s squad for the 2022 World Cup, Kyereh suffered a serious injury that sidelined him for an extended period.
He has since returned to action and scored for Freiburg’s reserve side as he works towards full fitness.
