Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Jordan Opoku has called for a shift in focus from immediate results to long-term development, as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Opoku advised Ghanaians to manage their expectations and allow new head coach Carlos Queiroz the time needed to build a solid team.
"The focus should be on building for the future and creating a solid team," Opoku said. "We have a new coach who still needs time to implement his philosophy, style of play, and preferred players."
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. While the nation hopes for a strong showing, Opoku believes the priority should be long-term growth.
"We must not expect too much from the team at this stage. The focus should be on building for the future," he added.
Ghana will be making their fifth World Cup appearance, with their best performance still the quarter-final run in 2010. For Opoku, patience and structure are now more important than short-term glory.
