Frank Acheampong found the net in the dying moments of stoppage time, but his effort proved insufficient as Dalian Yingbo fell 3-2 to Qingdao West Coast in a thrilling Chinese Super League encounter on Friday.
The match at the Dalian Suoyuwan Football Stadium was highlighted by a high-stakes Ghanaian derby, with Acheampong’s international teammate, Abdul-Aziz Yakubu, setting the tone early for the visitors.
Yakubu broke the deadlock in the 21st minute by coolly converting a penalty, giving Qingdao a slender lead that lasted until the halftime whistle.
Dalian Yingbo responded with urgency after the break, finding an equalizer through Nicolae Stanciu in the 51st minute.
However, the momentum shifted back to Qingdao as Davidson restored their advantage in the 68th minute.
The visitors seemingly put the game out of reach in the fourth minute of added time when Nelson da Luz converted a second penalty for Qingdao.
Acheampong displayed his trademark persistence by scoring in the 97th minute to narrow the deficit, marking his fifth goal of a productive campaign that has also seen him provide one assist in twelve appearances.
The defeat leaves Dalian Yingbo in third place with 23 points as they look to regroup for their upcoming fixture against Wuhan Three Towns.
