An emotional Asamoah Gyan expressed gratitude after being unveiled as ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and Colts football by the Ghana Football Association in Accra.
The colourful ceremony, held at the Pelican Hotel on Wednesday night, celebrated Gyan’s immense contribution to Ghana football and marked the beginning of a new role aimed at supporting the Black Stars and youth football development ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
"I am truly honoured by this recognition," Gyan said emotionally.
"I want to thank the President and the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association for believing in me and entrusting me with this responsibility. Ghana football has given me everything, and I will continue to serve this country with passion and dedication."
Gyan also pledged to use his new position to inspire young footballers and contribute to the growth of the game across the country.
The former striker appealed for more support for grassroots football, insisting the future of Ghana football depends on investment in young talent.
Widely known as "Baby Jet," Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 international goals and is Africa’s top scorer in FIFA World Cup history.
He represented Ghana at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups and famously scored the country’s first-ever World Cup goal against Czech Republic in Germany in 2006.
The ceremony attracted football officials, former players, corporate executives, politicians and supporters who gathered to celebrate one of Ghana’s greatest football icons.
