Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has urged Ghana to step up and prove their quality ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team must be fully prepared for the challenge that lies ahead.
Ghana will make their fifth appearance at the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
As part of their build-up, Ghana tested their readiness with a 1-1 draw against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium before travelling to the United States for the final phase of preparations.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association Media, Ayew stressed the importance of belief and resilience as the team targets a strong showing on the global stage.
"We have to prove ourselves, and we have to show that we have quality, and we have to be ready for the challenge," Ayew said.
"We all know it's going to be difficult, but we are ready. Obviously, I know people don't think that we will do well, so that is good," he added.
Ghana will open their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. Their final group match comes against Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars are aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic run to the quarter-finals in 2010, having suffered early exits in 2014 and 2022.
