Black Queens send positive signals ahead of WAFCON 2026

The Black Queens are gradually gathering pace ahead of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. 

The team led by Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who is being back with an additional staff including veteran tactician Pierre Pearson, have been preparing in Morocco for the past week.

Bjorkegren's girls enjoyed a morale-boosting friendly victory over Ivory Coast as preparations intensify for the competition which starts on July 25.

According to the Swedish trainer, the team is close to achieving their ultimate objective, which is competing and winning the tournament. A competition which also serves as a World Cup qualifier.

"We know we are getting closer and hopefully we are so close so we actually can beat them," he said. "I know we can on a good day."

Despite being satisfied with the level of preparation so far, Bjorkegren's major challenge remains the four players to be dropped before the final squad is announced.

All players have impressed at training leaving the gaffer with a huge dilemma. The WAFCON bronze-winning coach believes the players have improved significantly and are in better shape than they were a year ago.

Several of the players from the team last year earned good moves to Europe and North America.

However, the experience of players like Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Doris Boaduwaa and Portia Boakye.
