Malmö FF sporting director Philip Berglund has praised Ghanaian youngster Isaac Assibu for showing an “X-factor” and strong mentality in training after the club rewarded him with a new contract until 2030.
Assibu joined Malmö FF from Ghanaian academy WAFA in the spring and initially featured for the club’s P19 side. The winger quickly made an impression, scoring three goals in six appearances in the P19 Allsvenskan before the summer break.
Following the restart, the 18-year-old was promoted to train regularly with the senior team, where his performances convinced the technical staff of his potential.
His progress earned him a place in Malmö’s Allsvenskan squad for the home fixture against IFK Göteborg before he made his league debut against Kalmar FF, coming on at half-time.
Berglund believes Assibu’s attitude and qualities have made him stand out among his teammates.
“Isaac has shown an X-factor and a mentality in training that we have all been impressed by,” Berglund said.
The sporting director added that Malmö are excited to continue monitoring the development of the Ghanaian forward after permanently moving him from the youth setup into the first team.
Assibu, who can play on either wing, has been described as a quick and technically gifted attacker with strong one-on-one ability.
