Mohammed Zaidan caps impressive tournament with second straight Man of the Match award

Mohammed Zaidan rounded off an impressive individual campaign by claiming his second consecutive Man of the Match award after inspiring the Black Satellites in their goalless draw against Togo at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship.

The Ghana midfielder was the standout performer at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, controlling the tempo with his intelligent movement, crisp passing and relentless work rate as the Black Satellites searched for the victory they needed to keep their semi-final hopes alive.

The award follows another influential display against Burkina Faso, where Zaidan also picked up the Man of the Match prize after helping Ghana secure a 1-1 draw despite playing much of the contest with 10 men.

While Ghana's campaign ended in the group stage, Zaidan emerged as one of the team's most consistent performers throughout the tournament, underlining his importance in Maxwell Konadu's midfield.

The championship also gave the Black Satellites a valuable opportunity to test themselves against some of the region's strongest youth sides, with the technical team using the competition to assess players, refine tactical ideas and continue building a squad for future assignments.

Having already secured automatic qualification for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as hosts, Ghana will now shift its attention to preparations for the continental tournament, with the experience gained in Cote d'Ivoire expected to play a key role in the team's development.
