FC Samartex centre-back James Sowernu has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Timber Giants until 2028, securing the defender's long-term future at the club.
The centre-back has committed his future to the Ghana Premier League side after agreeing to fresh terms, a move that represents a major boost for FC Samartex as they retain one of their key defensive players.
Sowernu has been an important figure in Samartex's backline with his consistent performances, leadership, and defensive solidity. His previous contract was set to expire in June 2026 , but the new deal extends his stay by a further two years.
The extension comes after Sowernu's journey with the club began in the 2022/23 season when he initially joined on loan from Hearts of Oak. After impressing during that spell, he signed a permanent deal with Samartex in August 2023 .
Sowernu played a significant role in Samartex's historic first Ghana Premier League title victory, and the club will be hoping he continues to play a vital role in their domestic and continental ambitions.
