CAF President Patrice Motsepe hails Kurt Okrakuâ??s commitment to AFCON 2027 preparations

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has publicly praised Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku for his commitment to the Africa Cup of Nations after the Ghanaian joined him on an official visit to Tanzania ahead of the 2027 tournament.

Okraku, who serves as CAF Second Vice-President, travelled from Ghana to Tanzania as part of Motsepe’s high-level delegation assessing preparations for the continental showpiece.

Motsepe singled out Okraku’s presence during the visit, expressing his appreciation for the Ghanaian football administrator’s decision to make the trip.

“I am thankful I have my second vice-president here. I’m happy Kurt Okraku came all the way from Ghana to re-emphasise the importance of the AFCON to African football,” Motsepe said.

The comments from the CAF President highlight Okraku’s role as one of the senior members of the continental football governing body’s leadership team.

Okraku accompanied Motsepe during engagements with Tanzanian authorities as CAF continues to monitor preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

The delegation assessed key facilities in Tanzania, including the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, while also engaging government and football officials on the country’s preparations.

CAF has been closely monitoring progress on stadiums, training facilities, accommodation, transport, security and other infrastructure required for the tournament.

However, Okraku’s presence carried significance beyond the inspection itself for Motsepe, with the CAF President specifically acknowledging the Ghanaian’s journey from Ghana to participate in the engagement and reinforce the importance of the AFCON to African football.

The 2027 AFCON is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, marking the first edition of the tournament to be jointly staged by three countries.

Okraku’s participation in the Tanzania visit comes as CAF’s senior leadership continues to engage the three host nations and monitor their progress towards delivering the tournament.
