Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku, following recommendations from the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II–led mediation report on the longstanding Bawku conflict, a statement from the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has confirmed.
According to the statement, the action is part of government efforts to promote peace and stability in the conflict-prone area.
“The personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku, pursuant to the recommendations of the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II mediation report regarding the Bawku affair,” the Minister said, adding that Alhaji Seidu Abagre is safe under the care of the security agencies.
Bawku has experienced repeated unrest over the years, largely stemming from tensions between the Kusasi and Mamprugu communities. In response, the government tasked the Asantehene to mediate and propose solutions to the protracted conflict.
As part of his recommendations submitted to Jubilee House, the Golden Stool occupant advised the removal of Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku as a step toward restoring peace and easing tensions in the area.
