The Ghana Police Service has put in place special security measures at churches, public gathering venues, and other locations expected to attract large crowds during the New Year crossover celebrations.
In a statement, the Police said personnel have been deployed to intensify patrols in various communities, major towns, entertainment centres, and along key highways to ensure public safety and protection during the New Year festivities on Wednesday, December 31.
The increased police visibility, according to the Service, is aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order throughout the celebration period.
As part of the measures, traffic officers will be stationed at major intersections and on roads leading to watch night services and social events to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and reduce congestion.
The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to cooperate fully with officers on duty, comply with lawful instructions, and remain vigilant throughout the celebrations.
Citizens are also encouraged to be their “brother’s keeper” by promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Religious and community leaders have been advised to conduct their activities responsibly and in accordance with public safety guidelines.
In the event of an emergency, members of the public can contact the Police on 18555, 1-855-519-1112, or 0302 773 906.
The Ghana Police Service wished the public a safe, peaceful, and happy New Year.
