The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will channel party resources directly to constituencies to ensure equitable distribution and prevent feelings of exclusion among party supporters and citizens when elected to lead the party, the Chairman of the Communications Directorate of Dr Bawumia’s campaign, Nana Akomea, has said.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle, Nana Akomea said Dr Bawumia’s vision is anchored on decentralisation, fairness and accountability, stressing that power and resources must move closer to the grassroots if governance is to be meaningful to ordinary people.

According to him, Dr Bawumia has also proposed a system where each constituency will be guaranteed a fair share of government appointments.
Under the plan, every constituency will receive 10 appointments, drawn from the over 6,000 appointments available to a sitting president.
“The President of Ghana has over 6,000 appointments and definitely about half of these go to party people. Dr Bawumia’s response to concerns that people often feel neglected after elections is to democratise appointments so that they are orderly and equitably shared. This way, nobody can say they were left behind,” Nana Akomea explained.
He noted that this approach would break the long-standing perception that political appointments are concentrated in the hands of a few individuals or regions, instead of being spread across the country.
Nana Akomea also stressed on Dr Bawumia’s intention to reform how campaign logistics and resources are distributed within the party.
He said logistics for campaigns will go directly to polling station agents, rather than passing through multiple layers of party structures.
“When money goes to the region, it passes through the national level before it is disbursed. Dr Bawumia has said that for the campaign, every structure of the party will receive its logistics directly. It will not pass through any intermediary structure,” he said.
He added that polling station executives, particularly those involved in house-to-house campaigns, will also receive their resources directly, a move he believes will improve efficiency, transparency and morale at the grassroots.
Nana Akomea further disclosed that a Bawumia-led government will introduce constituency-based budgeting. Under this system, constituencies will be empowered to identify their own development priorities.
“Each constituency will bring three or four projects they want done for them, instead of the Ministry of Finance sitting somewhere and selecting projects on their own,” he said.
He argued that constituency budgeting would ensure that development projects reflect the real needs of local communities, rather than top-down decisions that may not align with local priorities.
Nana Akomea said these proposals reflect Dr Bawumia’s broader commitment to decentralisation, inclusion and accountable governance, adding that the aim is to make both governance and party organisation more responsive to the people at the grassroots.
