As part of its ongoing nationwide campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has carried out a major operation in Budumburam and surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.
The intelligence-led exercise, conducted on Friday, January 16, 2026, resulted in the seizure of quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, as well as items believed to be linked to drug peddling activities.

Several suspects were arrested during the operation, including a 32-year-old woman identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother.” She is described by local opinion leaders as a key figure in the Budumburam drug trade who had allegedly evaded arrest in the past.
NACOC said the suspect had been on the radar of its intelligence and surveillance teams following multiple complaints from the public about alleged drug-related activities in the area.

The Commission noted that the arrests form part of sustained efforts to disrupt local drug networks and respond to concerns raised by residents about the impact of illicit drug activities on community safety.
NACOC has assured the general public of its commitment to ensuring that Ghana becomes a drug-free nation, adding that all suspects arrested during the operation will be processed and arraigned before court in accordance with the law.
