The Ghana Police Service has handed over a bag containing GHC 85,000.00 to its rightful owner after it was found at a snap check point on the Techiman-Kumasi Highway.
According to a statement from the Bono East Regional Police Command in Techiman, the incident occurred in the early hours of February 14, 2026, at about 4:20 a.m.
Police officers on duty at a snap check point along the highway spotted a bag lying by the roadside, suspected to have fallen off a moving vehicle. The bag had the name “Ofori” and a contact number written on it.
The duty officers, led by Inspector George Appiah and supported by three other personnel, retrieved the bag and discovered it contained a large sum of money. The bag was subsequently handed over to the Regional Command for further investigation and verification.
Police contacted the number written on the bag, and a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown, Kumasi, identified as Stephen Ofori, responded. He later appeared at the check point and claimed ownership of the bag.
Mr. Ofori explained that the GHC 85,000.00 had been transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle when the bag accidentally fell off.
The money was counted and verified in the presence of the claimant and confirmed to be GHC 85,000.00. After providing satisfactory proof of ownership and undergoing further verification processes, the police released the full amount to him.
The Regional Command commended the officers for their honesty and professionalism, as well as community members who assisted in drawing attention to the bag.
The statement was signed by ASP Appiah Danquah, Regional Public Relations Officer.
