The Attorney-General’s Office has informed Criminal Division 4 of the High Court that it intends to file fresh charges against former Executive Director of the National Service Authority, Osei Assibey, following the completion of a performance audit by the Auditor-General.
When the case was called for Case Management Conference (CMC), state prosecutors told the court that the audit report had only been received on February 16, leaving the Republic with insufficient time to amend the existing charge sheet.According to the prosecution, a preliminary review of the findings necessitates revisions to the earlier charges.
“In view of the fact that the report was received just yesterday, February 16, we were unable to file our amended charge sheet,” the state attorney submitted, praying the court for a short adjournment to enable the necessary amendments.
The court, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie granted the request and adjourned proceedings to February 25, when the plea of the accused person will be taken on the amended charge sheet.
The decision to revise the charges follows the Auditor-General’s performance audit of the National Service Authority, the outcome of which has now been formally submitted to the Attorney-General for further action.
