Police continue to make giant strides in ongoing mopping-up operations to dislodge criminals from their hideouts, where they emerge to create surprises.

The men in arm have, according to reliable Chronicle sources, recovered a service AK47 assault rifle, which was snatched from a Sergeant, arrested the prime suspects in the murders of two policemen, subdued a highway robbery blockade and nabbed two persons with a large consignment of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp within a week.

They have also arrested a self-styled national security operative who attempted to bribe personnel of the service with GH150,000 (One hundred and fifty thousand Ghana cedis) to allow their truck carrying cannabis to be taken away.
According to The Chronicle sources, following the murder of Number 64281 Constable Kwarko Stephen in Zebilla, in the Upper East Region, on February 8, 2026 the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters, upon receiving classified intelligence report on the incident strategised how to strike.

Consequently, on February 10, 2026 a team of crack detectives who could manifest to suit any posture and climate was dispatched to the mining enclave of Tarkwa and Huni Valley in the Western Region for reconnaissance duties.
The targeted suspect was Simon Apusiga, aka Ananga, 42, allegedly linked to the policeman’s killing.
Three days after pitching camp with the assistance of another team of detectives from the Western Central Regional Police Command swooped on the suspect at Fante Mines Housing between Tarkwa and Aboso.
The Chronicle gathered that his call locations, according to scientific analysis, indicate that he was at the scene of the crime between 8.05pm and 8.50pm, which time falls within the period the incident occurred.

Upon interrogation, he reportedly stated that he did not shoot the policeman but rather it was one Apebaa, aka True Boy, who informed him that a policeman has been shot.
On February 11, 2026 the Bono Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) gathered information that a gang had earmarked a businesswoman plying the Dormaa-Gonokrom Highway for their robbery expedition.
A section of armed PID details, led by its regional director was, therefore, put on the beat.
On February 12, 2026 at about 01:30hrs the team tactically advanced towards an idle motorbike to scan the environment for its owner.

Suddenly, sporadic gunshots emanated from the nearby bushes, compelling the personnel to first take cover, followed by a return of coordinated rapid fire targeting the nearby bushes to quell any potential attack.
At about 05:45hours when visibility was restored, the bushes were searched and the body of a male adult, believed to be of Fulani extraction, was found ridden with bullets.
Lying by him was one AK-47 assault rifle marked GHGP/BR/SNID/SNI/178000-47, a Sunyani District Armoury issued weapon.
Further search of the general area uncovered a sack containing two Baikal single barrel guns, one pump action gun, one Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition, thirty-four rounds of BB cartridges, one keypad mobile phone, one Honda motorbike, a black mask and a set of talisman.

Preliminary checks revealed that the recovered service rifle was the same weapon that was snatched from Number 47294 Sergeant Samuel Atsitsogbe on January 12, 2025, exactly three hundred and ninety-five (395) days away.
The Sergeant was on duty to escort market women to Yeji when they came under armed attack, which resulted in him sustaining injuries being treated till date.
From Oti Region, and based on intelligence on the movement of a benz container truck, police team mounted surveillance to track down the activities of the said vehicle.
On Sunday February 15, 2026 the said truck, with registration number GS 3831-19 was intercepted at Bodada.
An initial search conducted on the vehicle revealed an empty cargo area.

However, a thorough inspection uncovered a newly fabricated concealed compartment.
The truck was subsequently taken to the Jasikan Police Station where a local welder was engaged to cut-open in the presence of the driver, Amrado Justice Nelson, 50, and another person, OnaneyeYussif, 20, who was also onboard.
One thousand, four hundred and eighty-two (1,482) compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp or ‘Volta cocaine’ were retrieved.
During the process, the suspect driver allegedly attempted to bribe the police with an amount of Ghc80,000 (Eighty thousand Ghana Cedis) but was rejected.
On the same Sunday, the sustained mopping-up operations achieved yet another feat when personnel of the PID headquarters on duty at Atebubu came under fire.

Their unmarked vehicle to Techiman, enroute to the Ejura-Nkoranza road bumped into four armed men.The miscreants signalled them to stop, amid firing of shots.
The agile team returned fire killing one of the suspects instantly while the rest managed to escape into the nearby forest.
Exhibits found on the deceased were one single barrel gun, four live BB cartridges, two spent cartridges, three mobile phones, one flashlight and cash the sum of GHC200 (Two hundred Ghana Cedis).
A few weeks ago, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno launched the ‘morale revolution’ and jokingly pronounced that bribing a policeman has now become a dangerous enterprise.
Tema Region
Police in the Port and Industrial City of Tema are the first to display such bravery.
On Sunday February 15, 2026, acting upon a tipoff, the Regional Operations Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Jean Kpelli, led a team of officers and men to intercept a tipper truck with registration number GN993-14 at Sege Manya. It was loaded with fertilizer sacks containing suspected narcotics.

Report has it that, the driver and other occupants fled and, therefore, abandoned the said truck.
The vehicle was subsequently driven to the Tema Regional Police Headquarters pending further investigation.
On Monday February 16, 2026 one Victor Asigbey contacted the Operation Commander, DSP Kpelli. Asigbey reportedly told the former that the owner of the arrested suspected narcotics hadasked him to intervene by sending an amount of GHC150,000 (One hundred and fifty thousand Ghana Cedis) to soften the ground and release the truck and exhibit.
The officers feigned interest and so Victor Asigbey, 40, accompanied by one Peter Asigbey, 35, proceeded with the cash to the Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Kwasi Kwarteng with the operations boss also in attendance.
Victor, who claimed to be a National Security operative reportedly presented the cash, but was immediately apprehended.
Bolgatanga became the next action point
In the early hours of Tuesday February 17, 2026, personnel from the Headquarters of the PID in Accra in a joint intelligence-led operation arrested suspect Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu aka Baaluuse, 33, from his hideout at Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga.
The suspect and his accomplices yet to be arrested have been on Police wanted list for carrying out a deadly attack on the police barrier at Kariminga and shot dead Constable Seth Oppong Damoah.
Two others, Corporals Nyanku Charles and Abu Moro sustained life-threatening injuries.
Suspect has been identified as a very active warrior for one of the feuding factions in the ongoing Bawku conflict.
A search conducted on him led to the retrieval of three mobile phones. Police intelligence indicates that the suspect and others at large belong to a whatsapp group called ‘Trusted Friend’ with the image of a certain leader in the conflict as their profile picture.
Baaluuse is also seen in a video displaying a number of AK47 assault rifles in a sack and pistols at a location suspected to be Bawku.
According to a police report sighted by The Chronicle, he was also captured in audio message requesting for more ammunition to re-arm a faction in the troubled zone.
The intelligence agencies were able to identify him and one Mark, now at large, as the kingpins in the importation of weapons and ammunitions to Bawku to fuel the ravaging conflict.
Bono Region
Meanwhile, Edmond Gyebi, also reports from Sunyani that residents of Bono Region are breathing a sigh of relief after a serious intelligence-led police operation prevented what could have been a bloody robbery attack on innocent traders travelling along the Dormaa–Gonokrom highway.
The police operation did not only save the lives and business capital of the innocent traders, but also exposed an arsenal of weapons concealed in a big sack by the suspected criminals.
The recovered cache, according to the Deputy Bono Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joshua Coppson Esq, paints a disturbing picture of the scale of violence attack that had been planned by the robbers.
The list of operational items concealed in the sack included: “two Baikal single-barrel guns, a pump-action gun, a Beretta pistol loaded with ammunition, an additional AK47 rifle, dozens of rounds of ammunition, BB cartridges, a dagger, a black mask and a set of talisman” believed to have been intended to embolden the gang.
At a press briefing in Sunyani, DCOP Mr. Coppson, described the operation as a major breakthrough in the Command’s relentless fight against armed robbery and organised criminal activities.
“Police intelligence received on February 1, 2026 indicated that a notorious robbery gang had planned an attack on traders travelling along the Dormaa–Gonokrom highway,” he disclosed.
According to him, surveillance teams were swiftly deployed to monitor the area and foil the planned ambush, which they succeeded in doing.
Meanwhile, the Bono Regional Police Command says it has intensified efforts to identify and arrest the remaining gang members believed to have fled the scene.
“We wish to assure the public that operations are ongoing,” Mr. Coppson stated.
He also made a passionate appeal to residents of the Bono Region to support the law enforcement efforts to ensure the area is safe for all.
“Security is a shared responsibility. We urge the public to volunteer credible information to help us rid the Region of criminal elements.”
