The Ghana Police Service has arrested three students in connection with the assault of an Obrachire Senior High Technical School student, an incident captured in a viral video circulating on social media.
On February 19, 2026 during the District Schools Athletics Games at Agona Swedru, a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School was allegedly mobbed and pelted with stones by students of Swedru School of Business.
In a Facebook post on the Ghana Police Service page, the Police confirmed that the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, had engaged the management of Swedru School of Business and Obrachire Senior High Technical School, as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.
During the meeting, the management of Swedru School of Business was given a 24-hour ultimatum to produce the students involved to assist with investigations.
Subsequently, the school, led by the Assistant Headmaster, in charge of Domestic Affairs, Mr. Michael Nii Kwaku Buxton, presented the three suspects to the Swedru Divisional Police Command.
The suspects – Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18 and Bilal Mahmud, 18 – all students of the school were arrested and are expected to be put before court.
The Central Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the conduct of the students involved and urged the public, especially students, to refrain from engaging in acts of violence.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has held a crisis meeting following incidents of violence and assault recorded during ongoing inter-school sports competitions in some districts within the Central Region.
The Director-General commended the Central Regional Director for suspending all sporting activities pending thorough investigations into the reported incidents.
Professor Davis stated firmly that any student found to have engaged in acts of assault would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the laws of Ghana and the regulations of the Ghana Education Service.
