Residents, Teachers and Health workers in communities around Shama in the Western Region have received a boost to their daily lives, following major expansion works and donations by Keda (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited, witnessed by John Dramani Mahama, during his first official visit to the company’s sprawling facility.
For schools like Beposo D/A Basic School, the donation of tiles and sanitary wares represent more than infrastructure, it is about restoring dignity and creating a better environment for children to learn.
President Mahama on Tuesday cut sod for the company’s expansion projects and broke ground for a new glass manufacturing facility, marking another phase in the firm’s growing footprint in Ghana’s industrial landscape.

The ceremony was accompanied by donations valued at about GH¢500,000 to selected schools, health institutions and communities, reinforcing the company’s commitment to improving lives beyond its factory walls.
Visibly impressed by the scale of operations, the President praised the company not only for its production capacity and employment record, but also for its efforts to balance industrial growth with environmental responsibility.
“I commend Keda for incorporating responsible environmental practices into this project. Industrial growth must never come at the expense of the health and well-being of our communities or the preservation of our natural environment for future generations,” he said.
Managing Director Li Wei explained that corporate social responsibility remains central to the company’s philosophy, stressing that business success must go hand-in-hand with social impact.
“As part of our CSR initiatives, we regularly donate tiles and sanitary wares to uplift schools, health institutions, community projects and government agencies. We also provide funding to help improve the quality of service delivery,” he said.
He added that the company had contributed approximately GH¢5 million in donations since its establishment, including GH¢200,000 to the Children’s Support Fund.

Beyond its social interventions, the company’s economic impact is equally significant. Group Chair Y.C. Shen revealed that Keda directly and indirectly employs about 19,500 Ghanaians, positioning it among the country’s leading private sector employers. But he emphasised that the company’s vision extends beyond employment figures.
“Beyond business growth and employment, we are mindful of our broader contributions in improving lives and communities. We remain committed to partnering with government to ensure that the benefits of growth are felt in households and communities across the country,” he said.
The company has also earned recognition for integrating environmental safeguards into its production processes.
By adopting a zero-waste approach and complying with standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency, the company aims to reduce its environmental footprint while supporting Ghana’s broader industrial transformation agenda.
