The Ashanti South Police Command has gunned down two suspected armed robbers who were among a gang operating along the Obuasi-Dunkwa Highway. The Command has also arrested some suspected robbers and seized a Toyota Saloon car, guns and munitions.
The Regional Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaabah said at a media briefing at Bekwai, on March 10, 2026 that the Command received credible intelligence that a gang of armed men had converged in a bush along the Obuasi-Dunkwa stretch and were making preparations to carry out a robbery.

He stated that a police team, upon arriving at the location near Obuasi, spotted four young men armed with guns and upon sighting the police immediately opened fire.
The police retaliated and hit two of the robbers in the process who were later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Commander said one AK47 assault rifle, one pump action gun and quantity of munitions were retrieved at the scene.
The two dead robbers the Commander said were identified as David Aheto, 42, from Sogakope in the Volta Region and a resident of Assin Fosu and Illiasu Bawa, 32, a native of Banda Nkwanta in the Savanna Region.
According to the Commander, the two deceased persons have been linked to multiple armed robbery cases across Obuasi, Wassa Akropong and Assin Fosu.
He said other members of the gang, including one Samuel Adjei, also known as Africa and others are currently on remand at Wassa Akropong.
The Commander added that Abdallah Alhassan, Jemimi Usman, Amine Iddrisu, alias 0244 and Daniel Debrah are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.
DCOP Mr. Joseph Nyaaba said investigations revealed that one Alhaji Abdallah of Asawase, in Kumasi, was responsible for selling the recovered AK47 to the gang for GHC45,000.

The Commander said a follow-up exercise conducted on March 11, 2026 led to the arrest of Aminu Iddrisu, also known as 0244, who led the police team to the recovery of one AK47 assault rifle and one Bruni pistol.
He stated that the team also arrested Daniel Debrah, 24, whose arrest and a subsequent search led to the recovery of a Toyota Saloon car, believed to have been part of the booty from operations carried out by the late David Aheto.
