The Women’s Committee of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union Branch at Golden Star Wassa has hosted the Empowered Miners Summit aimed at promoting inclusion, professional growth and stronger female participation in the mining industry.
Held on April 24 under the theme, “Driving Productivity Through Inclusion and Bold Advocacy,” the summit brought together women from Golden Star Wassa and its contractor companies in a strong show of solidarity and engagement.

Participants from various departments and levels of experience engaged in discussions on workplace inclusion, personal development, leadership and the evolving role of women in mining.
A major highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring experienced professionals who shared personal journeys, career lessons and practical advice on navigating the challenges and opportunities within the sector.
The interactive session created an avenue for participants to openly discuss issues affecting women in mining while exploring ways to enhance their impact and career progression in the industry.
Representing the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union, Vida Brewu took participants through legal protections, workplace policies and advocacy mechanisms available to support women in the workplace.
Speaking at the summit, Rebecca Appiah of the Community Department underscored the importance of empowering women in the mining sector.
She noted that supporting women to grow and lead not only improves individual wellbeing, but also contributes significantly to organisational performance and productivity.
The summit formed part of ongoing efforts by the Women’s Committee to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the mining industry while creating platforms for mentorship, dialogue and professional advancement for women.
