The newly appointed Ashanti Sub-Transmission General Manager, Ing. Kofi Apau Ohenese, has visited UNICEM Cement Ghana Limited’s plant along the Bekwai–New Edubiase road to assess voltage quality and power fluctuations at the factory.

Ing. Ohenese was joined by Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, Manager of Network Maintenance, and Collins Manu, Communications Officer for Ashanti Sub-Transmission during the visit last Thursday.
The visit was mainly a direct response to concerns raised by UNICEM about voltage quality and power fluctuations and particularly by the fact that UNICEM Cement Ghana Limited is one of ECG’s biggest industrial clients.
?UNICEM is said to pay about GH¢9 million monthly to ECG for which ECG does not see the company as just a customer, but one of the Ashanti Region’s key industrial accounts.
The team used the visit to assess the technical issues at first-hand and map out the next course of action to address the concerns raised.
?According to ECG, the engagement signals a wider push to tighten infrastructure and improve service for industrial customers across the region and that the visit is part of its ongoing effort to reduce downtime and build trust with high-impact clients.
Following the inspection of the site Ing. Ohenese acknowledged the disruptions and gave UNICEM a clear commitment assuring that the Electricity Company of Ghana would address voltage issues at UNICEM Cement Ghana to ensure a Reliable Power Supply.

He noted that Stable electricity was critical for cement production since any instability affects both output and costs.
During the visit, UNICEM stressed that reliable power was not only about their factory floor, but also about keeping Ghana’s construction sector moving and supporting broader economic growth.
The ECG has, since the inspection, moved into action to stabilise the sub-transmission network and deliver consistent, high-quality power to keep the plant running without interruption.
