Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, has commended the government for initiating the two-day National Sanitation Exercise to clean and sanitize the environment.
He urged the government and other stakeholders to sustain the exercise devoid of politics.
The Kwadaso MP also cautioned the government not to wait until there is flooding before mobilizing citizens for a clean-up exercise.

Speaking to the media at Kwadaso when he joined the Assembly for the National Sanitation Day exercise, he said the exercise should not be politicized and must become a habit among citizens to ensure clean environments and improve hygiene in various communities.
He further urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to intensify sanitation exercises in electoral areas on a monthly basis to ensure everybody in the locality participates.
Prof. Nyarko expressed the view that a healthy environment contributes to a healthy lifestyle, and that irrespective of one’s status in society, everyone must get involved in the exercise.
Mr. Eric Asibey, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso, stated that the Assembly began the dredging exercise two months ago in Patasi, Edwenase, Kwadaso, Kwadaso North, Asuoyeboa and Asuoyeboa South, and is currently working in the Topre electoral area.
According to him, the Assembly received a warning from weather forecasters that there would be heavy rains this year, as a result, it decided not to wait for storms or rains to take over. He said the Assembly decided to dredge various drainage systems in the area.

He advised prospective land buyers to consult the Assembly to conduct feasibility studies to determine whether the place is suitable for building before purchasing land; otherwise, one may buy land at a cheap price only for the building to collapse.
Mr. Asibey also cautioned against building on waterways and nature reserves as well as diverting the course of rivers. The MCE entreated the citizens to always abide by environmental laws for their own good and with that Ghana will go a long way in avoiding environmental problems and perennial floods in the communities.
