Amrahia Dairy Farms Property Owners Run To Mahama For Help

Land and property owners at Amrahia Dairy Farms have petitioned President John Mahama over alleged demolition of their homes and properties without a court order by individuals who claim to be acting on the authority of the Presidency.

The aggrieved residents, clad in red attire with red arm bands, singing traditional songs, presented a petition to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, before proceeding to the Presidency to submit another petition.

The protesters, carrying placards with inscriptions such as; “We need President’s probe into illegal demolition,” “Demolition without court order,” “Djato is terrorising Ghanaians” and “Djato, you are warned,” appealed to President Mahama to intervene and investigate the matter.

The demonstration was led by the Chairman and President of the Amrahia Dairy Farms Property and Land Owners Association, Prosper JoemensRhormiller, who said the alleged demolition constituted a violation of the fundamental human rights of affected residents.

Reading the petition on behalf of the association, Pastor Rhormiller said members acquired their properties after 40 per cent of a tract of land measuring about 1.9 miles, which was acquired by the government in 1970 for a Dairy Farm project and released to the pre-acquisition owners.

According to him, the government, in November 2020, realised that compensation had not been paid to the pre-acquisition owners, leading to an engagement between the then Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, KwakuAsomah-Cheremeh and the affected families.

He stated that the released portion of the land was to be shared among the families in collaboration with the Lands Commission, based on each family’s grant,stating that members of the association legitimately acquired their lands from the Amrahia family, one of the pre-acquisition owners, with indentures serving as proof of valid grants.

The Association, however, alleged that on March 18, 2026, a company known as Global Delivery Services, accompanied by some armed police officers arrived in the area with excavators and demolished some structures belonging to members without any court order authorising the action.

The group further claimed that a notice issued on March 12, 2026, by Global Delivery Limited indicated that the company had received a Power of Attorney from the grandson of the late Solomon Robert Oddamtten, who allegedly claimed ownership of the land and had authorised the company to manage and regularise matters relating to the property.

The petitioners also  alleged that Global Delivery Limited later claimed the Lands Commission had instructed the demolition, a position they disputed, arguing that the Commission’s mandate was to manage state lands and not to authorise demolitions.

They maintained that under the laws of the country, demolitions could only be carried out upon the authority of a competent court and that the Ghana Police Service could only assist in such actions after receiving a valid court order.

The association also alleged that documents obtained from the Lands Commission showed inconsistencies regarding the affected areas and the parties involved, claiming that the demolition was to affect persons who traced their grants to Oyarifa and not Amrahia, while the party mentioned in the documents was Anyok Holdings and not Global Delivery Limited.

The petitioners appealed to President Mahama to intervene, protect their fundamental rights and ensure that the rule of law was upheld, and expressed confidence in the President’s commitment to accountability, justice and the protection of citizens’ rights, urging him to take urgent steps to address what they described as an injustice.

Receiving the petition on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian TettehYohuno, the Director General of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, COP TeyeCudjoe, assured the group that their concerns would receive the necessary attention andencouraged the protesters to remain law-abiding in pursuit of their demands.

Presidential Aide at the Presidency, Dr. Samuel Ayeh, who received the petition on behalf of President Mahama, commended the residents for demonstrating commitment to the rule of law and maintaining peace adding that the protesters could have resorted to unlawful actions but instead chose to express their grievances through lawful means.

Dr.Ayeh described the alleged treatment of the residents as reprehensible and condemned any attempt by individuals to take the law into their own hands and assured the group that the government would investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
