Newly crowned champion of TV3’s annual reality show Ghana’s Strongest Damian Smith says he has always dreamed of winning the title though it was just a matter of time.
Damian, popularly known as Shaka Zulu, was named the winner of Ghana’s Strongest on Sunday.
The final, which was held at the Achimota Retail Center, saw all four athletes battle it out for the ultimate prize and also who gets the bragging rights to be named the Strongest Man of the Year.
He dominated most of the challenges held on the day, earning a total of 77 points to be crowned champion with his competitors trailing behind him.
After the show, Shaka Zulu was presented an amount of GH¢ 12,000 with souvenirs from sponsors, a smart phone and a certificate of participation.
Speaking exclusively to TV3, this year’s strongest man from Pig Farm in Accra says hard work pushed him to where he is today and he is prepared to come back and defend the title next year.
“I was short of words because I’ve wished to take home the title. Last year it did not happen, this year I said I have to come for the title, so I planned everything to come for it this time around,” he said.
“The challenge is very competitive because if you say you want to be crowned strongest man you have to possess all the qualities.
“It is one of my best seasons so far, never give up on anything. When you lose first time, try second one, third time you will have it.
“I was able to come back for the second time and was able to make it to the final and placed second and so this time around I was able to come again and told myself this is my year. If God grants me strength I will surely represent.”
Damian took over as Ghana’s Strongest man from last season’s champion Courage Adukpo.
