Nigeria talisman Victor Osimhen delivered for the Super Eagles on Monday night, netting a brace in their 4-0 victory over Mozambique to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Galatasaray striker started the Round of 16 encounter for his country and combined with attackers Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams to demolish the opponent.
In the game played at Complexe sportif de Fès, Osimhen had the ball in the back of the Mozambique net after just two minutes into the first half. Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed due to offside.
Later in the 20th minute, Ademola Lookman opened the scoring for Nigeria with a thumping effort after receiving a pass from attacker Akor Adams in the Mozambique area.
Five minutes after that goal, Adams put his creativity on display again, this time around, assisting Victor Osimhen to score to double the lead for the Super Eagles.
That goal capped a dominant first-half display from Nigeria before the side scored two more goals in the second half to dispatch the opponent.
Osimhen, who played 68 minutes of the match, grabbed his second just two minutes after recess to complete a stunning brace before Akor Adams put the icing on the cake with an unstoppable shot in the 75th minute.
Lookman who was lively throughout the contest assisted that goal, returning the favour from the first half.
Following the impressive victory, Nigeria are through to the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFCON.
