The Self Search Ghana Limited has launched the ‘Prefect Leadership Build (PLB)’ initiative aims at enhancing the capacity of student leaders.
The organisation kick-started the leadership with two public schools in Accra – Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) and Odorgonno Senior High School.
The two-day training programme held at PRESEC will also develop the creative and critical thinking skills of prefects and challenge them to create their individual legacies in their respective roles as prefects.
It further empowers the prefect body of the respective schools to develop and implement community-based legacy projects within their tenure as prefects in order to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Chief Executive Officer of Self Search Ghana Limited, Joyce Sika Twum said she personally observed a deficit in effective leadership across the student body of some Senior High Schools which was translating into lack of proper leadership and initiative taking by the youth upon entering the world of work.
“The Prefect Leadership Build seeks to change the mindset of the Ghanaian youth, first by training the prefects across senior high schools countrywide. The students will be taught conflict resolution, problem solving, negotiation, public speaking and more.
“These are transferable skills which would in turn prepare students leaders to take up other leadership positions out of and even after completion of their school leadership tenure.
“The very same youth we are training today are going to find themselves in leading positions in the public and private sector,” she noted.
Board Chairman of Self Search and former President of Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Samuel Ofori-Adjei, expressed confidence the Prefect Leadership Build shall impact positively on leadership in Ghana.
“It was sad to see only three students express pride in our African leaders when asked, it is evident there is a leadership deficit in both public and private sector. We are confident this program will be extended to all public and private schools countrywide, through this we hope the quality of leadership in Ghana will in turn be improved.”
“I seek to build my skills in negotiation through this program’ School Prefect of PRESEC, Kofi-Quakyi Oduro shared.
Protocol Prefect of Odorgonno, Nancy Osei hopes to improve her public speaking skills through the training program.
Upon completion the students will be awarded with certification as Self Search Educational Quality Improvement Programs Peer Coaches.
Headmistress of the PRESEC, Ms Lady Queene Asiedu-Akrofi said she is confident the program would create a shift in the leadership of the student body.
Self Search Ghana Limited provides outplacement support services, recruitment and job placement and corporate training for the youth and adults.
The Prefect Leadership Build (PLB) program is approved by the Ghana Education Service.
