The President of the Republic has appointed Mr. Aaron Kanor as Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), with immediate effect.
Mr. Kanor, a seasoned customs administrator with over three decades of service, takes over the strategic leadership of the division at a time when revenue mobilisation, border security and trade facilitation remain central to Ghana’s economic recovery and fiscal consolidation efforts.
According to a statement issued by the GRA, Mr. Kanor brings to the role extensive experience in customs enforcement, revenue generation and institutional reform. His appointment, the Authority noted, reflects a career marked by integrity, operational excellence and strategic leadership within the country’s customs administration architecture.
Until his elevation, Mr. Kanor served as Officer in Charge of Port Operations, where he supervised critical customs functions, including enforcement of customs laws, revenue collection and trade facilitation at Ghana’s ports. Under his stewardship, the division strengthened border security systems and enhanced compliance within the international trade environment.
Over the years, he has occupied several key operational and command positions across the country. Notably, he served as Sector Commander at the Kotoka International Airport and headed Wa Collections.
He also worked as Chief Revenue Officer in multiple operational jurisdictions, where he led intelligence-driven operations that curtailed smuggling activities, uncovered invoice falsification schemes and dismantled criminal networks engaged in vehicle identification manipulation.
These interventions, the GRA statement indicated, contributed significantly to improved revenue performance and bolstered national security safeguards at Ghana’s borders.
Mr. Kanor has further been instrumental in advancing modernization initiatives within the Customs Division. His contributions include the implementation and strengthening of electronic valuation systems and other strategic reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing cargo clearance turnaround times. These efforts have supported Ghana’s alignment with international customs best practices and facilitated legitimate trade flows.
His appointment is expected to reinforce ongoing reforms within the Customs Division, improve compliance levels and support economic growth through more efficient and secure trade systems.
The Board, Management and staff of the GRA congratulated Mr. Kanor on his appointment and expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commissioner of Customs, Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, for his leadership and service to the division.
With revenue mobilisation and border integrity remaining critical to Ghana’s fiscal outlook, Mr. Kanor’s appointment signals continuity in reform, with renewed focus on operational discipline, modernization and strategic enforcement within the Customs Division.
