MTN Ghana has announced that the cost of data and talk time has been adjusted upwards following the implementation of the 1 per cent COVID levy by the government.
The increment takes effect tomorrow Saturday 1st May 2021, MTN said in a statement.
“Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) wishes to inform you that following the introduction of the COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy, which has resulted in a 1% increase in the National Health Insurance Levy, talk time and data charges have been adjusted to reflect the tax change.
“This takes effect from 1st May 2021,” MTN said.
The government introduced in the 2021 budget statement a Covid-19 Health Levy of a one percentage point increase in the National Health Insurance Levy and a one percentage point increase in the VAT Flat Rate to support expenditures related to Covid-19.
Reading the budget on the floor of the House on Friday March 12, the leader of Government Business Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said “To provide the requisite resources to address these challenges and fund these activities, government is proposing the introduction of a Covid-19 Health Levy of a one percentage point increase in the National Health Insurance Levy and a one percentage point increase in the VAT Flat Rate to support expenditures related to Covid-19.”
