Ketu South: Lente-Wute gets new police station, school block 

 

Two essential infrastructure facilities have been handed over to the people of Lente-Wute, a community in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region.

A native philanthropist, Felix Akakpo Akonta has single-handedly funded the construction of these two vital projects which include a 3-unit classroom block and a police station.

The Lente-Wute community previously lacked a basic school, hindering children’s access to education until Mr. Akonta intervened a few years back by opening one for the community.

In 2023, he built and commissioned a 6-unit classroom block to accommodate the growing population of pupils at the primary level which has now been followed by an additional 3-unit block.

This new facility will cater for the Junior High School pupils as part of efforts to providing a conducive learning environment.

In addition to the classroom block, Mr. Akonta has also handed over a newly built police station to the Ghana Police Service to bolster community policing, improve security, and combat the rising crime situation in the area.

The police station was officially handed over to the Volta Regional Commander, DCOP Andrews Boadu-Ekumah, who represented the Inspector General of Police.

In an address during the ceremony, Mr Akonta indicated that he was motivated to undertake the projects due to the gaps that existed in the school and the growing threat of insecurity in the area.

“These projects were made possible through my personal resources, driven by my passion for community development and commitment to improving the lives of our citizens,” he said.

He further underscored the importance of partnership in propelling change in communities across the country, stressing that, “Today’s inauguration is a testament to what can be achieved through individual initiative, community spirit, and collaboration. I encourage all of us to strive for excellence, support one another, and work towards a brighter future.”

Mr Akonta, who hails from the community has been praised for his longstanding commitment to the development of the area.

He has in the past been recognized by the Aflao Traditional Council for his philanthropic works which led to the building of a CHPS compound, a community water-closet toilet facility among other projects he funded for the community.
