The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised concerns about ongoing campaign activities by some party executives, members, and supporters.
These actions, aimed at promoting individuals vying for positions at various levels of the party, have drawn criticism for detracting from the NPP’s immediate priorities.
In a statement, the elders emphasized that such activities are counterproductive to the party’s efforts to recover from the disappointing performance in the 2024 elections. ”At this pivotal juncture, the NPP must concentrate on understanding the factors behind its electoral defeat and developing strategies to bounce back stronger.”
To spearhead this effort, the National Council has established an Election Review Committee under the leadership of Professor Mike Oquaye.
Over the next three months, the committee will engage party members, stakeholders, and the public to identify key insights and propose actionable recommendations. A comprehensive report will be presented upon the committee’s completion of its work.
The elders reminded all members that this is a period for introspection and unity, not internal rivalries or premature campaigns.
