The ladies are back on the football pitch and as always, they are determined more than ever to grow the brand that is women’s football.
The Ghana Women’s Premier League restarted over the weekend after going on recess during the holidays.
10 matches were played across all centers. Fighting for the 3 points is important but looking the part is a need for some players.
For Faith Ladies goalkeeper Annabel Bansah, match days are special days hence it calls for looking nice.
Bansah follows in the footsteps of legendary footballer Marta who never misses to apply the very visible red lipstick on match days.
Banyana Banyana of South Africa midfielder and PUMA ambassador Nomvula Kgoale also known for her signature red lipstick is noted to have said, “you don’t have to sacrifice your femininity because of the game”. Like Annabel, entering the pitch on match days is exactly like walking into her office so appearance does matter for her. Not only was she known for the make up on match day 8 of the Women’s premier league, but her saves also guided her team to draw blank against Police Ladies and that made her the NASCO player of the match.
In an exclusive interview with 3sports, Anabel Bansah one of many ladies increasingly taking to women’s football at the league level, makes sure embracing her femininity is as important playing. According to her, “I am a lady, I have to look nice. It’s not because I am a footballer I cannot dress neat. I have to be neat. This is my office. I have to make myself ok”.
