
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to bolstering national security and strengthening border security and management in the country.
He highlighted the need for modern infrastructure, capacity building and provision of modern equipment and logistics to support the Ghana Immigration Service in discharging its mandate effectively.
The Minister emphasized government’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of security personnel and enhancing national security.
Speaking at the commissioning of a new office building and the donation of a Nissan pick-up vehicle at Mampong in the Ashanti Region for the Ghana Immigration Service, the Hon.
He commended Mr. Yaw Amponsah Marfo, the Chief Executive Officer of VIP Transport Services, for the construction of an office accommodation and donation of a brand new pick-up vehicle for the Ghana Immigration Service and said the donation exemplifies the power of public-private partnerships in driving national development and enhancing security infrastructure.
According to him, the modern office building will serve as the headquarters for the Mampong Sector Command, providing a cutting-edge working environment for personnel. He added that the brand-new Nissan pick-up vehicle will significantly enhance the mobility and operational efficiency of the Ghana Immigration Service in the region.
Hon.Muntaka lauded the Ghana Immigration Service for their good work and dedication, which has improved border security and management, saying that without security, there cannot be development.
The Minister urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the security agencies, stressing that security is a shared responsibility. He also called on the media to sensitize citizens on the importance of reporting suspicious activities to maintain peace and security in the communities.
Meanwhile, the Minister has banned the movement of motorbikes, tricycles, ‘aboboyaa’, and the like for both men and women in Binduri Township and its environs in the Upper East Region.
The Minister said any person found riding motorbikes, tricycles, and ‘aboboyaa’ will be arrested and prosecuted.
Alhaji Muntaka Mubaraka said this in a statement on Sunday, April 13, after reviewing the curfew hours imposed on Binduri from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am with immediate effect.
The Minister acted on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, the statement said.
“Government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.
“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Binduri Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, men wearing smocks, and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
“Additionally, the movement of motorbikes, tricycles, ‘aboboyaa’, and the like are banned for both men and women. Any person found riding motorbikes, tricycles,and ‘aboboyaa’ will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement said.
This statement was issued after a deadly gun attack in Binduri resulted in the death of a man.
The incident occurred near Atuba, a suburb of Binduri Central. While authorities confirmed receiving information about the attack, they were unable to provide further details at this time.
However, the security sources revealed that the attackers set the victim’s body and motorcycle on fire after the killing.
Although the exact motive behind the attack remains unconfirmed, initial assessments suggest it may be linked to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has seen a resurgence in recent weeks.
This latest violent episode comes less than 24 hours after a high-level visit by the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to the Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II.

During the visit, the IGP appealed to the Bawku Naba for closer collaboration with security agencies to help restore peace and stability in the area. He pledged that the police would act professionally and remain neutral in their peacekeeping efforts.
Meanwhile, the Bawku chapter of the Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) has strongly condemned the attack. The group is calling on the government to implement urgent measures, including increasing security presence in Binduri and enforcing a restriction on motorbike usage in the area.
MAYA has also urged the Member of Parliament for Binduri, Mahmoud Issifu, to take swift and practical action to address the escalating insecurity in the constituency.
