Nyelinboligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana with Speaker, Alban Bagbin, in Bimbilla
The Speaker of Parliament, Speaker Alban Bagbin, has stated that traditional rulers in Ghana are the true leaders of the Ghanaian society.
According to him, chiefs across the country stamp their authority around their traditional areas to ensure that there is law and order in the society.
“We are lucky to have our traditional leaders who take control and make sure that authority and power is felt by everybody at any corner of the country, and not central government, so the true leaders of our society as a country are the traditional leaders, and so we need to realise, respect, strengthen that,” he said.
He indicated that government, politicians and any other stakeholders are nobody without the traditional leaders of the country.
Mr. Bagbin, made this known when he led a parliamentary delegation to call on the Regent of the Nanung Traditional Area, Nyelinboligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, at his palace in Bimbilla in the Northern Region.
The courtesy call is part of efforts by the Rt. Speaker and his team to take Parliament to the door steps of Ghanaians, as Ghana celebrates 30 years of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy.
He appealed for the support of the Regent of Bimbilla to ensure that they both work together for the growth and peace of the country.
He urged the Regent of Bimbilla to continue to keep Bimbilla peaceful, and assured him of Parliament’s support.
“Now what happens in Bimbilla affects Accra and what happens in Accra affects Bimbilla, and so we are talking about Ghana now, and we are talking about us being Ghanaians not tribes and region,” he said.
The Regent of the Nanung Traditional Area, Nyelinboligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, described that speaker of Parliament as a man with integrity, experience, wisdom and good character.
The Regent of the Nanung Traditional Area noted that political positions have been used lately to diminish the role of chiefs in the society and urged the Speaker of Parliament to take up the issue to ensure that it’s addressed.
He commended the Speaker of Parliament’s matured way of ensuring sanity in Ghana’s Parliament, and assured him of their continuous support.
