Kwahu- Pepease (E/R), Dec.04, GNA - Ms. Franceen Obeng, a 17 year-old high school student at the Charlotte Latin School in North Carolina, USA, with support from her parents Dr.and Mrs Obeng and others have donated books to the Pepease Presbyterian School to encourage reading among the pupils.
Handing over the reading materials on behalf of the donor, Nana Oforiwaa Pokua II, the queenmother of Kwahu Pepease, said quality education at the basic level was critical in shaping the academic performance of children, hence, the need to inculcate in them the habit of reading and making reading and learning materials available.
She said most pupils at the basic schools are very intelligent and smart and must be supported by stakeholders in education to improve their knowledge in order to compete with their colleagues in other schools.
She said the intervention was to salvage the school from the abysmal performances at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)in the district in recent times.
Nana Pokuaa II urged teachers of the school to give off their best to improve on the performances of the pupils by putting the facilities to good use and to derive maximum benefit from it.
Reverend Kennedy Twum-Barimah, the Pepease District Minister, Presbyterian Church of Ghana on behalf of the school, thanked the family for the initiative and advised the pupils to take advantage of the library and spend their leisure time there to help improve upon their vocabulary.
