Police in Badu a predominantly farming area in the Brong Ahafo Region have bemoaned the increasing number of murdered mentally deranged persons in the area suspecting that it could be directly linked to ritual killings.
In the last four months, 6 of such persons have been killed in a similar fashion, a situation the police disclosed is becoming a source of worry and have pledged to step up measures in order to apprehend the assailants.
On Wednesday, a mentally deranged person in his late 20s only identified as Kwaku Abraham was gruesomely murdered at Badu market by unknown assailants.
The deceased who laid in a pool of blood at the market center when the police arrived at the scene had multiple wounds on his head and neck.
Speaking with Ultimatefmonline.com via phone, Inspector Abu Ansomana of Badu Police blamed the family of the deceased for the cause of his death.
According to him, they refused to heed to advice when he told them to send him to the Psychiatric hospital after an earlier failed murder attempt on his life months ago.
He observed that the death of Abraham was the sixth deaths recorded by the police in the village where the victims also had same wounds on their heads.
According to him, no part of his body was injured apart from his head.
Inspector Ansomana said he cannot rule out rituals in the constant killing of mad men with same spot of wounds in the village but cannot say if killers use them for money rituals.
‘We had the information around 6:30am that he has been killed. I blame the family for the death of the deceased. I told them point blank that they killed their own, he was almost killed months ago after treatment. I advised them to send him to a mental facility but they refused, now he is dead. We have lots of mad men who roam and sleep in the market, I have been advising them but they don’t listen. We will arrest the culprits, you cannot murder somebody and go scot-free,’ he said.
The body has been deposited at the Wenchi government hospital for post-mortem, whilst the police have mounted a search on the killers.
