Ghana’s Electoral Commission is one of the best in the business – Dr. Bossman Asare

The Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare has disagreed with the latest surveys depicting a decline in public trust in activities of the EC.

The surveys by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and Afrobarometer revealed a dwindling trust and worsening perception about the work of the Commission.

However, Dr. Bossman Asare in an interview with TV3’s Eric Mawuena Egbeta contended that the survey is not a true reflection of the Commission’s reputation.

He said the research institutions may have adopted an inaccurate sampling method as the Commission’s works so far makes it “one of the best in the business.”

“I do not want to jump unto that bandwagon because I do not know the people they asked but again my point is that when you talk about the quality of elections in Africa, Ghana is one of the best in the continent and the business.

“I think that people may make a lot of noises about the work of the EC…I think when some of these reports come out maybe it’s more of either they under sampled some people or over sampled some people,” Bossman Asare stressed.

According to him, the EC has demonstrated competence in its work citing its recent swift resolution to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) call for a forensic audit of the 2024 voters’ register.

“Regarding this forensic audit issue you just mentioned, you remember that as soon as we had a meeting publicly, which was televised nationally all Ghanaians saw that the EC had nothing to hide and since we finished that meeting there have been no calls for any forensic audit, an indication that the EC has demonstrated a loot of good will and competence which I believe many African countries are even looking up to us,” he said.

Meanwhile, the EC is set to transport ballot papers for the December 7, 2024 elections to the various regions from November 14, 2024.

This was announced in a letter by the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey to all political parties.
