A former Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery, Kwame Awuah Darko has asserted that the Ashanti Region is no longer a stronghold for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 polls.
According to him, the NPP’s neglect of the region under President Akufo-Addo’s administration has incurred the wrath of residents, who are no longer interested in retaining them in power.
In an interview with the media in Kumasi, Mr. Darko observed that the NPP has sidelined the very region that brought them into power.
He contrasted this with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which he said has sought to develop the Ashanti Region with massive development projects across all sectors of the economy.
Mr. Darko urged residents in the region to bring back former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, promising massive development if they do so.
This development comes as Ghana prepares for its presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2024, with the NPP and NDC being the two main contenders.
