The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has shut down McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal due to an outstanding debt exceeding $3 million.
This closure marks the second time McDan Aviation has faced such action.
The current debt includes land leases, rentals, and terminal charges that McDan Aviation failed to settle despite a deadline extending until Christmas.
This raises questions about the company’s financial commitments and its ability to meet its obligations.
In February 2022, GACL barred McDan Aviation from operating its private jet services at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) due to operational breaches. The company launched its services without meeting the required terms and conditions set by the airport authorities.
A letter issued by GACL in January 2022 ordered McDan Aviation to cease operations at Terminal 1, citing non-compliance with prior directives. The company failed to adhere to the agreed-upon terms for using the terminal, leading to its initial suspension.
Despite the previous shutdown and ongoing concerns, McDan Aviation’s failure to settle its accumulated debt has resulted in the latest closure of the private jet terminal.
This situation raises questions about the company’s commitment to responsible financial management and adherence to regulations.
Meanwhile, the future of McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal remains uncertain. To regain access, the company will need to settle its outstanding debt and potentially address any lingering operational concerns raised by GACL.
