Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong has urged Ghanaians to rally behind Black Stars coach Otto Addo, who has come under intense scrutiny following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Addo’s second stint as head coach has been marked by challenges, with only two wins in his last ten games. Many fans have expressed dissatisfaction and called for his dismissal.
Acheampong, however, insists that this is the time to stand by the coach.
“Yes, and he himself admits the results we had from the AFCON qualifiers are not the best. He acknowledges that, and I do same,” Acheampong said.
“What he needs to know is that whatever we need to do to support him to be able to negotiate the World Cup qualifiers and do well is what he requires of us.”
Acheampong also emphasized the importance of national support for the coach, stressing that the GFA’s Executive Council remains confident in Addo’s abilities.
“We have confidence, why not? He is the coach and needs our support. If you and I start losing confidence in him, who does he turn to?” he added.
Ghana’s disappointing AFCON qualification campaign ended without a single win, marking a low point for the Black Stars.
As they prepare for World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, Acheampong believes backing the coach will be key to turning things around.
