The final round of fixtures in the Ghana Premier League first round was nothing short of exciting as once again the top of the table changed hands.
Bibiani GoldStars were level on points with Heart of Lions before the commencement of the weekend’s games.
However, a hat-trick from Attah Kumi against Accra Lions meant the Golden Boys go into the first round as league leaders.
Meanwhile, their closest rivals, Heart of Lions, rather uncharacteristically lost 1-0 at home (Kpando) to Nations FC, who are now a point behind league leaders GoldStars.
On the other hand, Asante Kotoko ensured there’s still a lot of football to be played in the second round with a 4-1 mauling of Vision FC.
Kwame Poku bagged a brace as Saaka Dauda and Peter Aminu Acquah completed the demolishing, leaving the Porcupine Warriors in third place with 31 points.
Their arch rivals, Hearts of Oak, were held at arms length in Samreboi against defending champions Samartex.
Hearts, who are sixth, have 29 points while reigning champions Samartex are in eight place with 22.
After a run of nine consecutive games without a win, Nsoatreman stopped the rot with a slender 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Karela.
Aduana FC continued their inconsistent form in Basake as Holy Stars’ Bismark Tey scored two minutes from full time to give the home side a point in their 1-1 draw against the Dormaa-based club.
In Wenchi, Bechem United failed to build on their impressive win against Heart of Lions last time out as they were held by Young Apostles in a 0-0 draw.
At the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon Cities picked up only their fourth win of the season in their quest to stay in the top flight, with a convincing 3-0 victory over fellow strugglers Dreams FC
A late Zakaria Fuseini strike in Berekum sealed maximum points for Berekum Chelsea over Medeama in a 2-1 win.
