Think assists, think creativity, and you quickly zero in on world-beaters like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, Antoine Griezmann, and Rodrygo.
But what if I told you the aforementioned stars are below Ghana and Athletic Club forward Inaki Williams in La Liga’s assist chart?
It’s quite surprising but that has been the reality this season.
On Sunday, Inaki provided his sixth assist of the season after he drilled in a low effort for Alex Berenguer to prod home against Celta Vigo.
To put Inaki’s assists into perspective, only Barcelona’s sensational 17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal has provided more assists than the Ghanaian.
Lamine’s nine assists only betters Inaki’s six, same as Barcelona wide man Raphinha.
His ability to score and provide is a further testament of what he brings to the team.
After 19 games, Inaki has 10 La Liga goal involvements (six assists and four goals).
His goals have been invaluable to Athletic Club, who are currently level on points (39) in fourth place with Barcelona.
Although talks of a title pursuit is seen as an oversight, it cannot be dismissed.
If Barcelona are contenders, then they are !
Breakdown of Inaki’s assists
Inaki’s creative spark was ignited in September 2024, when he provided a treble of assists against Las Palmas.
Two weeks later, he was on hand to tee up Alvaro Djalo against Celta Vigo.
However, a dry run of spell meant his next assist came four days to Christmas when his ingenuity came to the fore against Osasuna.
His latest assist, and surely not his last, was on Sunday against Celta Vigo.
On an individual level, he has equalled his best La Liga assist tally of 6, which he has managed in three seasons.
