The recent killings of illegal miners who invaded the Cote d’Or concession of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine have become a major talking point in the country.
The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Mahama, has called for investigations into the matter.
The latest to add his voice to the incident is Honourable James Adaboh, the presiding member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly. While supporting the President’s call for investigations, he urged calm and called for cooler heads to prevail.
Describing the incident as regrettable, Honourable Adaboh extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in Obuasi and appealed to the youth to refrain from any actions that could disrupt the existing harmony.
Honourable Adaboh also expressed concern over the recent trend of party supporters forcibly seizing public assets. He warned that such actions, if not addressed, could undermine peaceful coexistence. He advocated for adherence to due process in acquiring state assets, particularly during transitions of government.
In addition, the presiding member called for dialogue among key stakeholders in Obuasi, including the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, and AngloGold Ashanti. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to find a lasting solution to the issue.
